Unlock Your Inner Power: 5 Practices to Awaken your Solar Plexus

You can try these practices at home!

This is part of my six weeks Yin Yoga series on Self-Confidence and Inner Power. These practices were incorporated to a weekly yin yoga class and supported with specific poses to shift and align energy in the solar plexus.


Ever felt stuck, unsure, or just overwhelmed by indecision? 

It might be a sign that your solar plexus chakra is blocked. This can manifest as feeling powerless, unsure of which direction to take, or even plagued by imposter syndrome. So, how do we cultivate an inner knowing and trust our intuition? It all starts with the basics.

Thankfully, we can overcome these feelings and strengthen our decision-making muscles in a few simple ways:

  • Sit with Yourself

Find five to ten minutes each day to sit quietly with yourself. Minimize distractions and find a peaceful spot where you won't be disturbed. This could be during your commute or by setting your alarm ten minutes earlier in the morning. There's immense power in simply sitting with yourself. Though it may feel challenging at first, you'll quickly understand how transformative this practice can be.

Imagine your higher self or a dear friend, and dedicate this time lovingly to yourself. Sit down, close your eyes, and commit to not acting on anything for the next ten minutes. Take three deep breaths, let your mind wander, and allow your body to be still. You don't need to try to remember anything – just let your mind roam.

Say to yourself, "I want to know myself. I want to know what I want." Repeat this affirmation, and gradually, your awareness will tune into your inner signals. Listen to the whispers of your heart and enjoy the silence. At the end of the ten minutes, jot down any words or thoughts that stood out.

  • Maintain Daily Practice

Clarity will come with consistent practice. To be confident in our choices, we need to deeply trust that the universe is guiding us towards our highest purpose, even if we don't know what that is yet. The more you follow these steps and affirm, "I want to know what I want," the more trust you'll gain in your inner guidance. Your feelings will lead you – if something feels right, follow that charm. If it doesn't, maybe it's time to let it go.

  • Ignore the Noise

The opinions of others can be loud and distracting, especially when our confidence is low. It's easy to think others know us better than we know ourselves. But remember, no one knows you better than you do. Don't give your power away. You can say, "Thank you for your kind input. I see you care about me. However, I have a strong desire to [your desire], and I'm going to follow that for now and see where it takes me."

Fear of making mistakes often holds us back. But mistakes are just the universe's way of guiding us towards our true path. Every misstep is part of our natural evolution and can lead to wonderful surprises. Embrace mistakes as part of the journey. They help us learn and grow, bringing us closer to our fullest potential.

  • Build Conviction

Confidence comes from a firm belief in who we are and what matters to us. Journaling can help develop this conviction. Try these powerful coaching questions:

  1. Who are you? Write freely and let your thoughts flow.

  2. What is important to you in life? What are you passionate about? Write these down in any form that feels right.

  3. Fast forward five years. Imagine the most incredible movie starring you, living your dream life. What's happening in this movie?
