5 Benefits of a Morning Routine

Make your morning a miracle every day!

Make your morning a miracle every day!

From Lack-Lustre to Energy-Buster

It’s taken me some time to manufacture a healthy habit out of my mornings.  I used to dread the alarm going off and the sun coming up, feeling heavy at the start of each day. It was a perpetual cycle of sadness and dread.  I knew I couldn’t suffer like that anymore, I had to make changes.  I started small. I kept it simple.

“Nothing changes if nothing changes.”

Beauty and the Beast.

It’s true mornings can be a beast. They come around too soon, you wake up tired, you feel unmotivated, lack oomph and well let’s face it, you’re feeling a bit flat.  That “snooze” button never seems to last long enough, right?

But what if we were able to find beauty in each morning, no matter our circumstances, no matter our job, worries and woes.  What if cultivating a healthy morning routine helped up to rise each day with a little more joy, a little more peace within ourselves and something to look forward to.

Sounds magical right? But why even bother? I’m going to share with you some of the benefits of creating a morning routine to give you a little motivation each morning so you can wake with a smile. Let’s keep this simple.

What are the benefits?

Feel in control, but not in a freaky way!

With so much to do in a day it’s easy to feel anxious and overwhelmed, it can feel as if you are out of control, rushing from one chore to the next without taking time to be present.  Eventually it can feel as if the day is controlling you rather than you taking control of the day.  A morning routine can help you feel more grounded and establish a sense of control before the rush of the day.

Less stress, more calm

When you wake your body gives you a natural boost in the form of cortisol. This helps fire you in to action for the day (or not as the case may be).  Cortisol is known as the “stress” hormone and you need this in the right quantity for your body to function normally but too much can knock you off balance.  Setting time aside in the morning for your routine, allows you to balance your energy, inviting a sense of calm as you begin your day.

Goodbye forgetfulness

When you have the same routine every day its much less likely you will forget something important.  It takes time to build even the simplest of habits, but habit forming is about doing something over and over until it becomes second nature.  When we create new habits, we remove the “thinking” part and it frees up our mind for other tasks meaning you can remember things like the kids sports kit and putting the bins out!

Increase self-esteem, you’re worth it!

An established routine allows you to get in the groove each day without using so much effort and willpower. You can enjoy the time you have set aside for yourself each morning as a gift to yourself.   When you have a sense of getting-stuff-done and feeling in control you naturally increase your sense of self-esteem.  You create a can-do mindset that helps you win everyday.

Be more productive, time is on your side

When you establish a routine, take care of yourself and free up mind space, you allow yourself the chance to shine.  Routine allows you more time and a better sense of self, meaning that you can accomplish more with the time you have. Whether that’s spending more time with your family, taking up that new hobby you’ve always wanted to do or just enjoying more down time, starting with a simple morning routine is the building block to a more peaceful life.
